Connect with the healing power of plants

By Julianna McKeen, RMT

Aromatherapy is one of the oldest and most pleasant healing arts. It is considered a holistic therapy as it treats each person as a whole as opposed to only treating independent areas of the body. At its core, aromatherapy is the enhancement of the mind, body and spirit with the use of aromatic, botanical essential oils. These oils have remarkable therapeutic properties and have been used in traditional cultures for centuries. The essential oil of each plant is its life force containing both medicinal and fragrant characteristics. The oils provide tremendous healing and balancing properties when used according to proper guidelines. They are most often used in baths, inhalations, compresses and massage, and are readily absorbed through the skin. When inhaled, they affect the brain and support the release of neuro-chemicals or hormones.

Depending on which essential oil you, they can help you relax, enjoy, rejuvenate, increase mental alertness and much more. The Essential Oils are distilled from various species of flowers, grasses, fruits, leaves, and trees. They are extracted from all different parts of the plants such as the leaves, flowers, stems, twigs, the fruit, roots and bark. The therapeutic qualities of essential oils are unlimited! Most are generally antiseptic, antibacterial, and disinfectant in nature and smell amazing!
