Wellness From My Desk: Small Habits That Make a Difference
Working as an office manager at Urban Health Group has given me a unique perspective on health and wellness.
I’m often the first person patients speak to when they arrive and one of the last people they see before they leave. Over time, I’ve heard a lot of stories, from busy parents and desk workers to athletes, students, and people simply trying to feel like themselves again.
And if I’m being honest… I’m one of them too.
Like many people, I spend long hours at a desk, sitting, standing, answering emails, solving problems, and moving from one task to the next. I’ve seen firsthand how quickly stress, tension, and everyday habits can start showing up in our bodies.
One thing working in a multidisciplinary health clinic has taught me is that feeling your best usually isn’t about one major change. It comes from small, consistent habits that support your overall health and wellness.
Here are a few things that have helped me personally:
Move more than you think you need to. Even a short walk, stretching between tasks, or changing positions throughout the day can make a difference.
Don’t wait until you’re uncomfortable to take care of yourself. I’ve seen so many patients benefit from being proactive instead of reactive. (This is a reminder to myself.)
Use the support available to you. I may be biased, but I’ve personally found value in different types of care depending on what I need, whether that’s seeing our chiropractors, physiotherapists, chiropodist, massage therapist, or even our naturopath for overall wellness support.
Build moments of calm into your routine. A few deep breaths outside, putting your phone away for 10 minutes, reading, stretching, relaxation doesn’t always have to mean a full spa day.
One of my favourite parts of working at Urban Health Group is seeing how different healthcare services can work together to support each person’s unique wellness journey. Our team takes a personalized approach to care, helping patients explore options that fit their goals, whether they’re looking for pain relief, injury prevention, improved mobility, or simply ways to feel better day to day.
You don’t have to do everything at once. Sometimes taking care of yourself starts with one appointment, one walk, one stretch, or simply checking in with yourself.
Small steps can create meaningful changes.
